L2BGreen Newsletter: Gaia on the Move

From Research Milestone to Real World Innovation

Welcome to the second edition of the L2BGreen newsletter.

Since our first issue, the Erasmus+ project Learning to Be Green has continued to grow as an innovative learning environment and as a research driven initiative at the intersection of sustainability, entrepreneurship and artificial intelligence. With our interactive teaching cases, the AI supported learning companion Gaia and upcoming project activities, L2BGreen is moving steadily from concept to real application.

Our goal remains clear: to help learners across Europe develop the mindset, knowledge and skills they need to turn sustainability into entrepreneurial action.

Gaia at the Europe Tech Hackathon

Europe Tech Hackathon 2026, 15 to 17 May, Vienna

From 15 to 17 May 2026, Gaia was presented at the Europe Tech Hackathon 2026. The event brought together innovators, developers, entrepreneurs, students and sustainability enthusiasts to work on technology based solutions for real world challenges.

For L2BGreen, the hackathon was a valuable opportunity to present Gaia in a practical innovation setting. Showing Gaia in this context allowed us to connect educational innovation with hands on experimentation, collaboration and impact driven technology. It also offered a chance to exchange ideas with people working on sustainability, digital learning and responsible innovation.

What Makes Gaia Different?

Gaia is not designed to simply give quick answers. It is built to support deeper learning. The tutor combines several pedagogical approaches, including case based learning, Bloom’s Taxonomy, Socratic guidance and AI supported feedback. In practice, this means that Gaia asks questions, encourages reflection and helps learners move through different levels of understanding.

A key feature is Gaia’s multi agent structure. Different agents take on specific learning roles, such as presenting case scenarios, supporting knowledge development, encouraging application and giving feedback on learners’ arguments. This reflects one of L2BGreen’s core ideas: artificial intelligence in education should be carefully designed, pedagogically grounded and used to strengthen critical thinking.

Scientific Publication Accepted at AIED

Accepted for AIED 2026: first L2BGreen scientific publication

We are delighted to share an important research milestone for L2BGreen: the project’s first scientific publication has been accepted. The paper “Learning to Be Green: A Pilot Study of the Gaia Multi-agent Tutor” will be presented at the International Conference on Artificial Intelligence in Education, AIED.

This publication shows how L2BGreen contributes to the growing field of AI supported education for sustainability and entrepreneurship. The paper presents a pilot study of Gaia, a conversational tutor designed to support learners in developing a green entrepreneurial mindset. It explores how Gaia guides students through case based learning activities, from understanding a case context to deeper analysis, argumentation and practical application.

Kicking off the L2BGreen Network

With the L2BGreen Network, we are creating a European space to highlight, connect and discuss innovative approaches in education for the green transition.

The network brings together educators, learners, researchers, entrepreneurs and innovation actors who are interested in green entrepreneurship, sustainability education and future skills. Its aim is to share good practices, make inspiring European initiatives more visible and support exchange between education, business and green innovation.

Our first example is Girls Go STEM, a European initiative led by the EIT Community. The project empowers young people, especially girls and young women, to develop digital, entrepreneurial and sustainability-related skills. Through the Circular Learning Space, learners can explore practical modules on topics such as artificial intelligence, robotics, e-waste, sustainable mobility, climate innovation and the circular economy.

Girls Go STEM is a strong example of the kind of education we want to highlight through the L2BGreen Network: practical, inclusive, European and connected to real-world sustainability challenges.

Thank you for being part of this journey 💚
